Two Nigerian citizens were charged in court on Wednesday for allegedly assisting an Iranian militant cell in planning possible attacks on Israeli targets.

The suspects, Abdullahi Mustapha Berende and Saheed Oluremi Adewumi, stand accused of being members of a “high profile terrorist network”.

In February, the State Security Service arrested both suspects, plus another Nigerian for allegedly planning attacks in Nigeria. The name of the Iranian militant cell they are said to be working with is not disclosed in the charge sheet, Reuters reports.

Berende is accused of traveling to Tehran, the Iranian capital, and providing material assistance as well as weapons training.

He also allegedly knew about the spying on two Israeli targets in Lagos, the Chabad Lubavitch Jewish center and the Lagos branch of AA consulting, which he failed to report to local authorities, according to Reuters reports.

The charges also claim that he took $30,000 in funds to carry out operations. Both he and the other named suspect, Adewumi, are accused of aiding the Iranian terrorist group with camera surveillance.
